Wedding Reception for Dustin & Gina

Dustin & Gina came home for the weekend for a wedding reception we had for them.
IMG_0441

They came from New York with her folks, Mel & Ann and sister, Kaylie.
IMG_0436

My sister Coleen & Glen from Georgia and their daughter Claire Bleu came for the event.
IMG_0439

We took a tour of the Bogue Chitto Cotton Gin.
IMG_0242

These 2 machines take the seed out of the cotton.
IMG_0298

The seed is sold and used as a protein supplement.
What fun to play in this little pile of cotton seed.
IMG_0264

The cotton is packed and pressed very tight and wrapped with metal straps into 500 pound bales.
IMG_0276

The bales are wrapped and loaded into waiting van trailers ready to be shipped.
IMG_0309

The gin was very clean but also very loud and noisy.
IMG_0281

Saturday evening after the wind died down the boys pulled out their RCs and the Leagle Eagle.

There goes Joel.
IMG_0359

Here comes Joel.
IMG_0360

Then it was time for a pizza supper.
IMG_0363

When Georgi was finished eating she decided it was time to fetch the sweets.
IMG_0377

She almost had them when her daddy came and took her away!
IMG_0379

When the pizza supper was over we passed out the song books and sang quite a while. I loved it!

Tina is about to overtake Stacy.

Michael has a fun time being dumped!

Momma reads “The Little Engine That Could” to her two tired boys.

Sunday afternoon we had the reception for Dustin & Gina.

And then again the house about to burst at the seams!

Ugliest Pillow Case

Imagine my surprise when I won a fun award for
The Quilt With  the Ugliest Pillow Case.
IMG_0220
It’s not only ugly but has grease stains and is very faded. We used it for many years on the children’s pillows.

Picking Cotton

They came to pick our cotton.

IMG_0077

… and dump it into the boll buggy …

IMG_0083

… and put it into these packer things …

IMG_0140

… to make these modules.

IMG_0128

Now they are ready to be moved to the cotton gin.

IMG_0173

Tina Sue waited while Ashton climbed the module.

IMG_0181

Ashton was glad to get back with Tina. It was scary up on that module.

Birmingham Quilt Guild

Today I went to Alabama to share my quilts with the Birmingham Quilt Guild.

IMG_0209

IMG_0210

I enjoyed their “show & tell” and seeing the many quilts they have made.

Their president Vasha tells about her “string” quilt.

After my Power Point Presentation and trunk show these ladies took me out to Jim N Nicks for a BBQ lunch.

Thank you ladies for a wonderful day. I enjoyed it so much.

Diamonds for Tina Sue ~ Blogger's Quilt Festival

My entry for ...
Amy's Creative Side
Diamonds for Tina Sue
I found a tutorial on The Modern Quilt Guild's blog to make the half rectangle triangle. By placing the dark side of the rectangles together the diamonds came to life.
I really enjoyed sewing the wonky letters together to make her name.
Here's the little sweetie pie!

Work In Progress

I'm still working on Tina Sue's crib quilt.

I have the straight lines quilted and now I'm working on the loop-dee-loops in the blue diamonds. The blue thread doesn't show up much on some of the fabrics and it's hard to see where I've quilted and where I need to quilt. I guess I should have picked a thread with higher contrast.

And today I practiced a little to put Paul's name on his shirts. I used the coffee filter for stabelizer and it tears away very nice. The "Trucking" looks like "Tricking" and needs more practice.

This is our first year to plant cotton.

The fields are white unto harvest ...

Cotton makes wonderful quilt fabric, don't you think?
