En Provence Mystery Quilt - Week 1

It's that time of year again when Bonnie Hunter shares a mystery quilt with her readers. This year the name is "En Provence" and is inspired by her recent trip to France. She is giving us one clue per week until the grand reveal which usually lasts from 6-8 weeks.

These are the fabrics I have pulled for my quilt.

I decided to go with one constant fabric for my neutrals instead of going scrappy. I only have about 1/2 yard left after cutting the required squares. I hope that will be enough.

Last year two of my sisters, Emily and Polly, and my niece Jolene all joined in the fun of making Allietare. We are all doing it again and hoping another sister and friend will join us.

The sunset this evening was so beautiful. As it got darker it also got more red.

I had a great day, this first day of 2016. 

Bonnie Hunter gave us the 6th and final clue to the Allietare Mystery Quilt. I sewed most of the day and love how this quilt is turning out.

I have also been working on this piece. It's one of 5 slices of a picture of the Ag Museum in Jackson, MS.

Paul's niece Paula and Jerel Yoder from Colorado are spending a few days in the area. Their quartet of 4 boys is a lively bunch! They are helping Amy do some painting inside of her house.

 I fixed cornbread and soup with a plate of cheese and took it over to them for supper. This recipe came from my sister Polly who got it from Rosedale Bible Institute many years ago, if my memory serves me right.  It's been used many times and I treasure Polly's handwriting on my card.

        

Bonnie Hunter Allietare Mystery Quilt

I sewed all day today catching up on Bonnie Hunter's Allietare Mystery Quilt. 

It's been fun laying out the units on my design wall. 

Turning, flipping, and changing the units around.

But, who knows? It's a mystery and it may just turn into a medallion.

  

A Mystery Quilt -- Allietare

I'm ready again to join in the fun of Bonnie Hunter's mystery quilt. This year her inspiration came from her trip to Italy. She is calling the quilt Allietare which means "to gladden, to rejoice, to become cheerful."

I have chosen these fabrics that closely resemble her colors; although my reds and golds are more bright.

I tried to keep my neutrals with a creamy background although some are lighter than others. 

And my blacks are mostly prints that have golds, greens and other colors in them.

I have finished the clue for this week; 294 of these half square triangle units all done. We won't get our next clue until Friday. I have no idea what this quilt is going to look like other than it will be scrappy.

A few years ago I did Bonnie's mystery quilt called Orca Bay. It's still needing the borders on it.
