Mother and Me

I so much enjoyed having mother here for 2 weeks.

When she finished her “Blue Ribbon” quilt top …

… I took her outside for a photo shoot.

Back inside, she started on her third quilt. Remember how Emily sorted my scraps by color? I chose the orange drawer and the purple drawer for a crazy quilt.

Mother cut out the foundations and then pieced the blocks like she has been doing for years with velvets.

She took both of these tops home with her hoping to quilt them with her sewing machine.

Emily

I have enjoyed having my sister Emily come and visit fairly often the last while. She is getting more and more into quilting.
Here she is working on our charity quilt for SLM.

Emily, Barbara, and I took a class, "Dancing Dots" with Nancy Mahoney back in March in Piegon Forge. And now Emily has her quilt finished.

I remember Emily showing this quilt back at our Heatwole sewing retreat in January. She used the "Quilt as You Go" technique.

Here she utilized a "Milky Way" feed sack and made these two quilts.

And she made this wonky quilt here in our home from my scraps for her grandchildren to play with. (Let's see, you aren't really supposed to end a sentence with a preposition, are you?)

The Blue Chair

This week's photo challenge theme is "chair."

I first put Ashton's plastic adirondack chair in the shrub bed in front of the house and took a picture of it.

Then I printed the picture in sepia onto fabric that was ironed to freezer paper. The blue chair was cut out and fused to the sepia printed fabric.
I also sent the backing fabric through the printer, layered the three layers and then quilted and bound it.

Detail

Emily is here again and we are working on a charity quilt for SLM Ministeries.

The inspiration for this quilt came from Lotta Charm by Film in the Fridge.

I went fabric shopping with 3 of the Possum Town Quilter ladies to find something suitable for a block challenge. We came back to our house and got to work. Here’s Brenda cutting out strips.
