Life and Hattiesburg Quilt Show
Life …
Georgi and Talya came for a sleep over and then enjoyed the day. Ashton kept them entertained royally!
Paul and I had lunch with Darryl and Laura one last time before they move to Detroit.
A colorful bench for waiting in La Fiesta Brava.
… as a Quilter
Brenda, Ebba, and I went to Hattiesburg, MS for the biannual Fiber Art and Quilt Show.
This beautiful, modern, yet strikingly simple bird house quilt took my fancy.
Martha Ginn gave an inspiring lecture on “Creativity.”
Her bonfire quilt with a shining moon on glitzy netting over an old tablecloth was marvelous.
These next two quilts are part of the 2014 Hoffman Challenge. The recognizable fabric has the colorful circles in it.
I love the way the red strips in each block bring this quilt together. I think this would be something nice we could make at Sewing Circle.
I’m thrilled that my peacock “Palatial Plumage” got an honorable mention in it’s category and also “Judge’s Choice.”
And then too my “Bubbled Double Nine Patch” also received two ribbons, first in it’s category and best machine quilting with a domestic machine. I’m pleased as punch!

My Time in Paducah at the AQS Quilt Show
Judy and Lauren accompanied me to Quilt City, USA
There were so very many wonderful blue ribbon quilts and not enough blue ribbons to go around. I think every quilt at the show was a winner!
Judy especially liked the light tan background quilts with feathered stars.
Lauren enjoyed the brighter quilts with bold colors.
I was glad to meet Joy, whom I learned to know in Mississippi. Her home was wiped out during Hurricane Kitrina and she and her husband relocated in Paducah.
I took a picture of this quilt for my farming husband, Paul.
Amazing kaleidoscopes!
We found it interesting to see the exhibit of The Tentmakers of Cairo and watch this Egyptian man do hand applique.
I especially liked this “Tuning Fork” quilt by Heather Pregger.
One day we visited the Yeiser Art Center to view Fantastic Fibers 2014 - A Cutting Edge Fiber Art Event.
We studied this quilt by Susan Carlson a long time.
I also enjoyed an evening class with Karen K. Stone called “Windsor Gardens.” You can see my work in progress HERE.
The next evening I had a class with Stacy Michell making two “Hawaiian” quilts. This also was a fun class.
And the book signing of New Quilts from an Old Favorite – Carolina Lily at the National Quilt Museum was wonderful.
I got to meet the other artists in the book and visit with lots of other friends and people that came to the exhibit.

Houston Quilt Show and a Goal
Over the years I have admired the quilts of Caryl Bryer Fallert. She had an exhibit of 30 Quilts for 30 Years and a very interesting lecture which I enjoyed.
Each quilt measured 30”X30”
And here’s another quilt I like.
The quilt show was held at the George R. Brown Convention Center. Wouldn’t this picture make a neat ‘fresh modern quilt?’
I enjoyed a “Craftsy” demo by Victoria Finley Wolfe.
This kite quilt would make a wonderful throw or crib quilt for a child.

And now I’m setting a goal for
to have a small 7”X10” quilt finished by the end of November for SAQA.

Quilt Festival–Houston, TX
I was so pleased that Libby’s son Les and sister Ellen let me pose with them in front of one of Libby’s quilts.
Here is my sister Emily admiring another one of Libby’s quilts.
I really enjoyed visiting with the maker of this quilt.
This kaleidoscope by Paula Nadelstern caught my attention.
This quilt was inspired from a sketch this lady doodled and colored with her grandson.
The Best of Show is “Chihuly”s Gondola” by Melissa Sobotka.
This smaller quilt called “Wind” by Masanobu Miyama is exceptionally well done.
