Materials & Techniques: Fused raw edge applique with commercial cotton fabrics. Quilted with Superior Thread +/- 1/8" apart on a domestic Bernina. Edge is faced and hand stitched to the back. Signed & dated.

My inspiration came from a picture I took of 5 of our grandchildren in front of Lakeland Presbyterian Church on Hwy 25 just north of Jackson, MS in Flowood.

Using a photo app "Prisma" I changed the photo using the 'composition' filter.

Weeping Willow V for SAQA

My 12"x12" benefit auction piece "Weeping Willow V" is now in the hands of SAQA.

Details

I started out by marking a 1.25" grid on the background fabric.

From the same fabric I fused 'Heat-n-Bond' to the back of another piece.

The fabric on the left has the fusible on it. The right fabric has the marked grid on it.

I cut strips at one inch intervals and then into 1" squares a few at a time. Keeping them in the proper orientation I fused the squares onto the fabric with the grid.

More squares fused to the background fabric.

Leftover squares and triangles for another project!

The background is layered with batting and a backing and ready for quilting.

Deciding which spool of thread to use and on a violet silk fabric for the silhouette of the tree.

Straight line quilting +/- 1/8" for the background using a walking foot.

Preparing the tree, branches, and leaves for the weeping willow.

Fusing the tree to the quilted background.

Deciding which thread to use for the free motion stitching on the tree.

Finished, "Weeping Willow V" with facing hand stitched to the back.

The back.

Signed and dated.

Pieces of commercial cotton fabric were cut out and fused to a pieced red background to form a weathered tree that has continued to live.

"We are hedged in (pressed) on every side [troubled and oppressed in every way], but not cramped or crushed; we suffer embarrassments and are perplexed and unable to find a way out, but not driven to despair;

On Ringo Lake and Art Quilt of Lakeland Presbyterian Church

Between working on Bonnie Hunter's mystery quilt #OnRingoLake... 

...I have been working on my piece of the Lakeland Presbyterian Church in Flowood, MS. Here is my original picture.

I used a photo filter to get a different effect.

This is my piece of fiber art that I'm ready to quilt.

We also had a butchering day at the farm. I was glad the farm boys did all the work.

It's a 1993 model that we use on the farm to haul fertilizer and grain.

When our Southern Fiber Artist's group issued the challenge to make a 8"X11" piece using the theme vehicle and the color red; I thought about our old farm truck. It was mostly black with red fenders. Yes, that should work.

Using a photo filter on the computer I examined many options and finally settled on printing the outline of the truck in red and quilting over it.

I usually like to quilt +/- 1/8" lines across the quilt. This time I decided to go half way between those lines for double the quilting. You can see the difference it makes on this next picture.

And yes, I like the effect it produced. I'll have to try it again sometime.

Tina and Talya Make Rainbow Trees

Tina and Talya came for a visit today. Between all the giggling and talking they each made a piece of fiber art. Using their pieces that they started a couple weeks ago, they quilted and finished their work.

Our inspiration is the original "Rainbow Willow Tree" by Cinnamon Cooney.

Tina used my trusty old #170Bernina to quilt her piece.

Talya quilted her piece with my new #B780Bernina.

They signed and dated their fiber art as Cinnamon suggests.

Between sewing times they walked around the pond and picked up duck eggs for me. Can you tell which girl held the bucket and which girl gathered the eggs?

Carol

I made this small fiber art piece of my friend Carol for her birthday.

Her daughter Loretta sent me this picture of Carol taken when she was 18 years old.

I scanned it into the computer and added a filter, and then printed it onto fabric.

 Carol was pleasantly surprised with her small gift.
