… as a Quilter

I finished my “Cypress With Moss” quilt last week.

I cut out the pieces from cotton fabric and fused them onto a cotton background. It measures 16”X20” and is heavily machine quilted.

She gave me permission to translate her work into fiber art. So, from her watercolor painting “old cypress with spanish moss / Sky Lake WMA - Swiftown / September” on the right, I made this fiber art piece on the left that I call “Cypress With Moss.”

I used “fast finished triangles” on the back so it is ready for mounting.

Harvest and Quilting Goal

Life …

Angie & Tina came over for a while last evening and brought her grapes along. I helped her pull them off the clusters to get them ready for her to make juice.

Tina thinks it’s so fun to stand on a chair up at the sink with water to help her mama.

I rode one lap, (Well, not even a lap, more like one swath.)  in the combine cutting corn with Paul, Ashton, and his Dr. Pepper.
IMG_6170

I don’t understand how Paul knows what button to push or lever to pull at the right moment.
IMG_6173

The hopper on the combine is full. There is a rotating beacon that warns the person with the grain cart when the hopper is 3/4 full and then when it’s all the way full, saying “come and get it!”

Waiting for the truck to arrive.

Paul talks with the farm hands, Jamie and Jerry.

Ashton found my nut grinder and wondered what it was and how it worked. So we decided he could grind corn instead of my expensive pecans.

… as a Quilter

I’m setting a goal to get my “Scrappy Trips” (you have to scroll down to the bottom of the post) all pieced and the top ready for quilting by the end of August.

Work in Progress Wednesday

Life …

Paul has been picking corn and running the grain dryer for the last couple days.

This machine will help with all the field work that needs to be done.

Hundreds of birds landed at the edge of the pond.

… as a Quilter

I started working on the cypress tree with moss here last week. I wasn’t happy that the moss didn’t show up more so I added darker fabric over the lighter pieces of moss fabric. Now the piece is ready to be quilted.
IMG_6074

The trunk of the tree and the branches with moss to the right of the trunk are quilted. I have yet to machine quilt the branches and moss on the left side and all the background.

Here’s a close up picture of the left side of the tree trunk.

Bubbles, Work, and Wind

Georgi came one day last week. I tried to make those sturdy bubbles for her and Ashton. Somehow they didn’t work very well.
IMG_5839

I did manage to get a few big bubbles but mostly they were piddly and popped before they got to any size.
IMG_5837

With my camera in one hand and the bubble hoop in the other I snapped picture after picture after picture.

If I would have tried to get this picture, I’m sure it wouldn’t have happened!

I had a little help cleaning the porch and carport.
IMG_5893

A wind storm came through and peeled the roof back on Paul Shirk’s shop.

…and then Saturday some of the men from church had a work day to help clean up the mess.

Two More Sequoia Trees

I’ve started two more Sequoia tree quilts. These are smaller only 5”X7” each compared the the Sequoia I made here.

And then, I’ve started another tree.

This one is located in a swamp with moss on the branches.
