Cypress, Willows, and Dandelion

I'm part of the group Southern Fiber Artists. Within that group there are ten of us Sharing Fiber Art. We each make an 8"x10" piece of art for each person in the Shared Fiber Art group. So, I've been making and receiving pieces of fiber art.  Here are some of my finished works that I need to pass out to fellow artists.

Sunflowers and Design Wall Monday

Life …

Paul and I went for an afternoon drive on some of MS Wildlife property where we do some farming.
I loved the field of sunflowers and …

… Paul spotted some deer, two dots way off at the distant woods.

… as a Quilter

On my design wall is “Cypress Moss” and my peacock challenge. I’ve blocked it once and I’m ready to tackle the piping and binding.

I’m still undecided about a name. Some of the suggestions I received are:
Saucy, Hatched From a Golden Egg, Plain Fancy, Solomon's Splendor, Solomon's Saucy Splendor, Plumed Elegance, Royal Splendor, Solomon’s Chicken, Pride & Joy, Eyes for You, Heavenly Grace, Heavenly Eyes, Eyes of Heaven, Godly Wings, and Proud as a Peacock.
Surely something should “click” from this list, but I’m still undecided.

Cypress With Moss – Fiber Art Quilt -- Blogger's Quilt Festival

I discovered that you could have two entries in Amy’s Creative Side’s Blogger’s Quilt Festival.

AmysCreativeSide

With that in mind I decided to enter
into the ‘wall hanging’ category.

I cut out the pieces from cotton fabric and fused them onto a cotton background. It measures 16”X20” and is heavily machine quilted.

She gave me permission to translate her work into fiber art. So, from a picture of her watercolor painting “old cypress with spanish moss / Sky Lake WMA - Swiftown / September” on the right, I made this fiber art piece on the left that I call
“Cypress With Moss.”

I used “fast finished triangles” on the back so it is ready for mounting.

Work in Progress Wednesday

Life …

Paul has been picking corn and running the grain dryer for the last couple days.

This machine will help with all the field work that needs to be done.

Hundreds of birds landed at the edge of the pond.

… as a Quilter

I started working on the cypress tree with moss here last week. I wasn’t happy that the moss didn’t show up more so I added darker fabric over the lighter pieces of moss fabric. Now the piece is ready to be quilted.
IMG_6074

The trunk of the tree and the branches with moss to the right of the trunk are quilted. I have yet to machine quilt the branches and moss on the left side and all the background.

Here’s a close up picture of the left side of the tree trunk.
