Fiesta Fireworks Quilt – All Finished

I think now I can officially call this quilt finished! After starting it at Pigeon Forge and working on it some more when I got home and thinking it was finished, … I decided to cut off the binding, trim the quilt and bind it again. Now I really am finished.

I originally made this quilt for a challenge with the theme CELEBRATION.

It measures 39”X41.” (Oh dear. English teachers, does the period come after the inches symbol or before the inches symbol?)

It’s made from cotton fabric and overlaid with black tulle with glitter.

Kirby and Stacy came today and played with Ashton. They helped me with the photo shoot.

Life and Fiesta Fireworks Quilt

Life …
I was glad for the farm boys to come down to the house and pluck up some ornamental purple plum trees that needed replacing.

Mr. Busy Bee man is to come out now and trim back the shrubs, replant, and add mulch.
IMG_1484

The chute where the hogs are loaded onto the trucks. Do you see a rainbow around the sun?
IMG_1442

The grain bin with the lagoon.
IMG_1457

Irrigation system. Why is it so hard not to take too many sunset pictures? And there's that rainbow again. Is it my camera or was there really a rainbow there?

… as a Quilter
I’d love to do another art quilt of these silos with the barn. This is on the farm just south of us where Paul grew up.

I just disqualified myself from the CELEBRATION Challenge at A Mountain Quiltfest in Pigeon Forge,TN. You see, the rules stated that the perimeter of the quilt could not exceed 160.” Well, after quilting it I cropped it back to as big as I thought looked good, bound it, and added a sleeve. It measured 170.” Then I read the rules again and ran out of time. Aaarg!

I’m still toying with the thought of cropping off 2” from each side and 1” from the top so the fireworks don’t look incomplete. What do you think? And then the binding maybe should be all black instead of using the leftover scraps. Maybe I can enter it into a different show if I read and remember the fine print.

Heatwole Sewing Retreat … continued

This is the cabin we have been occupying all this past week. Can you see Polly waving from the balcony? And there is a huge hornets nest on the left side of the picture.

Coleen and I decided to get out and take a walk for exercise and to see the country. I’m hoping we can attend the little church for services.

There were a couple nice cabins, a small pool, and this little waterfalls at the end of the cul de sac.

Paul’s sister Dorcas wanted help with a “Dick, Jane, and Sally” quilt. Now that I got it all pieced, she plans to hand quilt it and put it up for auction.

I started a new project, “Fiesta Fireworks.” This was the beginning stages and I already discarded the red border for a plain black background.

My niece Jolene and her daughter Afton joined us for a couple days.
