Life ...

We invited our family along with a few friends in for a pizza supper last Saturday evening...

...and had a grocery shower and small reception to help Gabriel and Dana set up housekeeping.

While the adults visited the children played church on the stairs.

Talya found a sitting place inside the stool instead of on the stool.

… as a Quilter

I’m still working on my “Scrappy Trips” quilt. The center is all finished now so all it needs yet is a border and then I’ll be ready to quilt it.

We had our regular PTQ meeting on Saturday. Here are a few quilts from the Show & Tell.
Judy finished her “Star Spin” quilt that she started in a class with my sister Barbara.

Farm Life and Sequoia Quilts

Life …
I kept Talya and Georgi one day this week so their mother could help shampoo rugs at the school.

Ashton looks higher than he really is.
IMG_6228

We took a walk out the lane to get the mail.
IMG_6248

The water has been leaking from the pond. Usually this is no place for the grandchildren to play; but since I was with them they had great fun throwing rocks.
IMG_6263

Paul & Ashton took me on a 4-wheeler ride across the road to look for deer. Instead, we saw lots of egrets roosting.
IMG_6273

My nephew Andy and his brother’s daughter, Emorie came last evening and spent the night on their way to Texas.

There’s a red tint to some of the roofs at the shop.IMG_6335

Notice how the kernels of corn have little bits of red at the tip.

It’s kind of like chaff and the farmers call it “bee’s wings.”

The two sequoias I started earlier are now finished. These measure 5”X7”.

… as a Quilter

I finished my “Cypress With Moss” quilt last week.
IMG_6125

I cut out the pieces from cotton fabric and fused them onto a cotton background. It measures 16”X20” and is heavily machine quilted.
IMG_6126

She gave me permission to translate her work into fiber art. So, from her watercolor painting “old cypress with spanish moss / Sky Lake WMA - Swiftown / September” on the right, I made this fiber art piece on the left that I call “Cypress With Moss.”
IMG_6135

I used “fast finished triangles” on the back so it is ready for mounting.

Harvest and Quilting Goal

Life …

Angie & Tina came over for a while last evening and brought her grapes along. I helped her pull them off the clusters to get them ready for her to make juice.
IMG_6107

Tina thinks it’s so fun to stand on a chair up at the sink with water to help her mama.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I rode one lap, (Well, not even a lap, more like one swath.)  in the combine cutting corn with Paul, Ashton, and his Dr. Pepper.
IMG_6170
I don’t understand how Paul knows what button to push or lever to pull at the right moment.
IMG_6173
The hopper on the combine is full. There is a rotating beacon that warns the person with the grain cart when the hopper is 3/4 full and then when it’s all the way full, saying “come and get it!”
Waiting for the truck to arrive.
Paul talks with the farm hands, Jamie and Jerry.
Ashton found my nut grinder and wondered what it was and how it worked. So we decided he could grind corn instead of my expensive pecans.
I’m setting a goal to get my “Scrappy Trips” (you have to scroll down to the bottom of the post) all pieced and the top ready for quilting by the end of August.
Work in Progress Wednesday
Life …
Paul has been picking corn and running the grain dryer for the last couple days.
IMG_6049
This machine will help with all the field work that needs to be done.
IMG_6050
Hundreds of birds landed at the edge of the pond.
… as a Quilter
I started working on the cypress tree with moss here last week. I wasn’t happy that the moss didn’t show up more so I added darker fabric over the lighter pieces of moss fabric. Now the piece is ready to be quilted.
IMG_6074
The trunk of the tree and the branches with moss to the right of the trunk are quilted. I have yet to machine quilt the branches and moss on the left side and all the background.
Here’s a close up picture of the left side of the tree trunk.
