Magnolia Mennonite – Annual Comfort Knotting

Some of us ladies and children met at the school gym to pin comfort tops, batting and backs into the frames.

We also cut out bibs from towels for the local nursing home.

Bias tape was sewed around the edges of the bibs.

Later we decided that we could serge the edges instead of using the bias tape.

Our day’s labor produced three stacks of bibs.

The children had fun playing while we worked.

I loved seeing all the comforters leaning up against the walls …

… ready to be tied with yarn.

Dorcas brought her school children out to tie one of the crib comforters.

I think they were pleased as punch with their accomplishment.

People started arriving around 5:00 pm for the evening knotting.

Rolling ‘er up and getting ‘er done!

George and Beth enjoy a little time together.

I remember years ago my mother telling me, “many hands make light work.”

I’ve heard it said that “every quilt needs a little yellow.”

It was fun to watch the boys around this comforter. Evidentially a cup of tea was needed to get the job done.

My favorite spot for the evening was sitting at this quilt.

I think little Abby is plenty young to be roller skating.

An what could be more fun than a game of dodge ball to end the evening?

And now comes the job of binding all 16 of the comforters.

Celebration -- SAQA Benefit Auction Quilt

I finished my second “fireworks” quilt that measures 12” X 12” and I’m calling it “Celebration.” It will be up for auction with SAQA this fall.

This piece is made from commercial cotton fabrics cut and fused to a cotton background. Heavily quilted with Superior Thread’s Fantastico polyester thread.

… and it’s all because of her!

We walked across the road from our cabin to get a glimpse of a small portion of the “Little Grand Canyon.”

I think Josey was just being Josey!

   

It’s a long way to the bottom just across that little flimsy board of a fence.

Then we drove to Providence Canyon State Park for more adventures.

Some of us hiked to the bottom of the canyon.

These ‘serious’ hikers decided to go for the 3 mile trail, while the rest of us went back the 1/4th mile we had come.

See those little people at the bottom of the canyon? That’s where the ‘serious’ hikers ended up.

We waited at the visitor’s center for the ‘serious’ hikers to get back.

Later some of the men decided to go hunting for wild hogs.

Randy is getting in that last phone call before it’s time to sit still and be quiet.

Dorcas brought a rooster for Jeanie to take home. Jeanie wasn’t as fond of him and had a hard time loving him like Dorcas did.

The rooster did his job and woke us up … even when he wasn’t supposed to.

“Like father, like son!”

While the hunters were gone some of us played “Corn Hole.”

Too bad the Acadia doesn’t use diesel fuel.

Happy 80th Birthday, Daddy!

Mom enjoys one of their 30 great grandchildren.

We took turns fixing meals and had a very nice kitchen in which to work.

Singing the songs of the Church and heaven was a precious time together.

I’m so thankful to be grafted in to this wonderful family.
