Magnolia Sewing Circle

Our Magnolia Sewing Circle was well attended today.
Katelyn, Darlene, Erica, and Dawn start tying from around the outside edge.
Then the quilt is rolled in from the two sides so they can reach the center.
Darlene, Rachel, Dawn, and Deborah

Angie, Edith, Belinda, and little Allison work together on this sampler.

Sheila, Rosalie, Darlene, and Loretta start tying this top.

Since school is out, Carmen got to come and sew strips together for a quilt top.

Shirlene found the floor to be the best place for her job.

We had a lot of hand quilters around the frame today. Starting in the 7 o'clock position going clockwise, Carol, Louise, Elmina, Edith, Miriam, Dawn, Belinda, Thelma, Joanna, and Vada.

Katelyn, Carmen, and Deborah pin the binding, getting this comforter ready for stitching.
Mary cut out a few dresses.

Magnolia Sewing Circle

I so much enjoyed our day at sewing circle this month.

The hand quilters have started quilting this donated beautiful sampler top.

There were 18 comforts that were tied at our annual March comfort knotting.

Now they needed to be bound and finished.

Some of the ladies prepared the edges of the comforts for finishing.

Others finished the comforts by machine sewing the binding and edges.

There were a total of 18 comforters finished and are now ready for charity.

I enjoyed a visit from Marleen Berry Hanson the other day. She is from Columbus but grew up in the Shenandoah Valley near Luray and that's just not far from my home stomping grounds.

Magnolia Sewing Circle

Our group was quite large this month with 22 or more adults and 25 or more children attending.

We continued hand quilting the quilt with the embroidered blocks.

Shelah, Jenn P. and Jenn L. also finish binding comforters.

Evie and Rhoda cut out dresses for another project.

Brittany and Karla get another comforter ready for sewing the binding.
IMG_2865

It was a beautiful day and for the most part the children played outside. But a few toys enticed their creativity indoors.

Crystal shows Sheila how to sew alternate blocks for the bird blocks.

Crystal lays out these bird blocks, that Sheila has bordered, in a pleasing arrangement.

Lester and Louise plan to deliver these 22 packaged comforters to Christian Aid Ministries in Indiana.

Magnolia Mennonite – Annual Comfort Knotting

Some of us ladies and children met at the school gym to pin comfort tops, batting and backs into the frames.
IMG_1939

We also cut out bibs from towels for the local nursing home.
IMG_1941

Bias tape was sewed around the edges of the bibs.
IMG_1963

Later we decided that we could serge the edges instead of using the bias tape.
IMG_2017

Our day’s labor produced three stacks of bibs.
IMG_2067

The children had fun playing while we worked.
IMG_1951

I loved seeing all the comforters leaning up against the walls …

… ready to be tied with yarn.
IMG_1960

Dorcas brought her school children out to tie one of the crib comforters.
IMG_1964

I think they were pleased as punch with their accomplishment.
IMG_1974

People started arriving around 5:00 pm for the evening knotting.

Rolling ‘er up and getting ‘er done!

George and Beth enjoy a little time together.

I remember years ago my mother telling me, “many hands make light work.”
IMG_2004

I’ve heard it said that “every quilt needs a little yellow.”

It was fun to watch the boys around this comforter. Evidentially a cup of tea was needed to get the job done.
IMG_2031

My favorite spot for the evening was sitting at this quilt.
IMG_2036

I think little Abby is plenty young to be roller skating.
IMG_2063

An what could be more fun than a game of dodge ball to end the evening?
IMG_2056

And now comes the job of binding all 16 of the comforters.
