Stunning triangle-star quilts are perfect for adventurous beginners looking to try something new or intermediate quilters who’d like to put their skills to use in a creative way. This table runner class features how to work with a triangle block layout and an “easy way” method for template cutting.

About Julia
Julia loves the challenge of taking an image, whether from a photograph, nature, or in her mind, and creating it with fabric and thread. Her work is representational and often minimizes detail. Julia enjoys and appreciates art quilts with a new twist to the old and traditional.
Julia is encouraged when viewers study her work and discover with delight that it is not just another quilt but an expressive and compelling piece of fiber art.

Life and Guests

We are glad to have Nevin here from Idaho for a couple weeks while he works for Joel on his airplane. He jumped right in to help carve the ham for Sunday dinner guests.

Magnolia II Quilt

Life …

Ashton can beat me in putting these puzzles together.
IMG_6231

… as a Quilter

I cut out the petals from a fabric made of soft pastel colors.
IMG_6239

I thought at first that I would quilt all the background +/- 1/8” apart so I started in the middle and was working my way out to the top and bottom. And then I changed my mind. I decided to quilt approximately 2” apart and then fuse my magnolia to the quilt. Why waste all that beautiful thread under the magnolia?
IMG_6246

I highlighted the pastel petals with Inktense pencils and love the darkening effect.
IMG_6257

And now it’s on to the quilting.

Life and Quilts

Life …

I enjoyed lunch with quite a few of our church ladies at a local Mexican restaurant celebrating Chrystal’s 40th birthday.
IMG_20150120_130847202

One day I visited Ashton’s kindergarten class.

… as a Quilter

I am thrilled that my piece “A Glimpse Through the Lattice”

A Glimpse Through the Lattice X 1800

… has been chosen to be included in the “Southern Accents” exhibit in Melbourne, FL at the Ruth Funk Center for Textile Arts.

Paul and I recently had a trip to Florida for the Son Light Missions board meeting.
Caleb Stauffer retired after serving on the board for many years.

Then we too like to take in the FL Haiti Benefit Auction. I especially like to check out the quilts.

Life and “Amazing Grace”

Life …

We had our family all together when Dustin & Gina arrived from Los Angeles. Here are all my girls with an antique meat fork or pie crust cutter. I’m trying to pass out some of the things I have accumulated over the years.
Copy of IMG_6182

The boys each got an awl that I had purchased at my folks sale. Father turned the handles on the lathe to his liking.

We gave the grandchildren each a puzzle or game.

… as a Quilter

I finished a challenge to use this symbol in an art quilt.
SAQA bdpq

It reminded me of the sol in shaped note music. So, I took a picture of a song...
Copy of PicsArt_1421769005701

...and printed it out on fabric and layered it with the batting and backing.
IMG_20150120_104020314

Then I machine quilted it +/- 1/8” apart over the whole surface.
IMG_20150120_111618402

I machine stitched over all the music and lettering. I’m calling it “Amazing Grace.” It measures 8”X10” and is finished with a narrow binding and ready to hang.

And now I have started on my second Magnolia which is to be 36” square. You can see my first Magnolia here.
