The Start of Something New
Except for maybe the color, I found 2 completely different fabrics in my stash.
I applied Heat-n-Bond to the back of the fabric on the left and cut out 7/8” square patches on the diagonal. I starched the fabric on the right and then drew a grid of 1 3/16” squares onto the fabric. Starting in the bottom left corner I cut only a few rows of patches at a time of the fused fabric and ironed them to the fabric on the right. It was essential for me to keep all the square patches oriented correctly and in correct order.
And now my piece of background needs a focal point.

American Made Brand Fabric by Clothworks and Mississippi License Plate Quilt Block
I was recently invited to be part of a blog tour of American Made Brand fabric. Clothworks is introducing a new line of fabric that is grown, produced, manufactured and distributed in the USA. So when Candace at Clothworks asked me to participate by making a Mississippi license plate block using the AMB fabric … I said yes.
The fabric arrived recently and the colors are beautiful. They are all solid.
I decided to make a trial block using fabrics from my stash. I found a picture of an old license plate …
… and zeroed in on the pine trees, the magnolia flower, and the ocean at the bottom. Here’s my first trial quilt block.

Tina, Guests, and Sailing II Art Quilt
Life …
I took care of Tina one day this week. Her favorite puzzle piece was the motorcycle.
Building towers with my thread kept her occupied for a while.
Paul’s niece, Melissa & Scott and Kaylie from Michigan came to visit her family over the holidays.
We invited our family and a few from her family for supper. Her grandma Louise, her momma Miriam, her SIL Laura and …
… their spouses who had no problem not posing for a picture.
Georgi stayed for a ‘sleep over’ party.
Paul got a 10 point buck this evening.
… as a Quilter
There is still time to leave a comment for your chance to win my 4 yards of 100% cotton quilting fabric here.
I have decided now to make a series of Sailboat art quilts. So I took this picture, which is a little different from the other one …
… and made it into another small art quilt, Sailboat II. It measures 7”X10”.
Detail
The back is finished with “fast finished triangles” and is ready for mounting.
$125.00
Sailboat and Sailboat II
So now … I’m getting ideas for a third “Sailboat.”

Give Away–4 Yards of Fabric
Welcome to
Giving Thanks – Quilters’ Blog Hop Party
I thought it would be fun to give away an assortment of fabric somewhat similar to what I’m planning to use for Teryn Ray’s quilt. The total amount is 4 yards. That’s right, 4 yards of fabric of different size pieces.
To be in the draw, all you have to do is leave a comment telling which one of my quilts in the tab “2013 Quilts” you like the best, and if you care to, let me know why.
For an extra chance in the drawing become a follower in some way or follow by e-mail and come back and let me know how. If you are already a follower let me know that as well and how you follow in your second comment.
This giveaway will be open until Nov. 26, 2013 at 5 p.m. PST and to US addresses only. Then we’ll choose a winner with Mr. Random Generator.

A Busy Week
Life …
Perry and Emily’s son Andy, brought a friend, Grant, along down to Mississippi from Virginia to help a few days on the farm harvesting beans.
I kept Talya for one night and part of a day while her sister Georgi went to the hospital for hernia surgery.
As I was leaving for Starkville one day, I noticed a light in the dash that warned me of a low left front tire. Quinten and Jamie got me going again.
I baked three peach pies. One for us here at home and the other two for our school’s annual fish fry on Friday.
The school gym was full with attendees at the fish fry.
And then we had the Annual School Benefit Auction on Saturday.
Gabriel helped run “Grandpa’s Express” making lots of children happy.
Paul and I practiced and sang with this octet for Jerry Yoder and Cindy Mast’s wedding.
The happy couple, Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Yoder.
The ABC sisters, Arlene, Beattie, and Cindy sing one last song together.
… as a Quilter
My sister Emily took me to Boonville to Mr. Claude’s quilt and fabric shop. He uses a yardstick, carpenter’s square …
… and scissors to measure and cut fabric.

Fabric Giveaway
This giveaway is now closed. And the winner is Marcia W. who said "Purple Irises are my favorite flower and my purple iris quilt on my bed highlights this .
I’m giving away purple fabric. A fat quarter of 6 different pieces.
To enter the giveaway, just leave a comment about something purple.
And for me, I’m reminded of the child’s poem
GRANDPA DROPPED HIS GLASSSES
Grandpa dropped his glasses once
In a pot of dye,
And when he put them on again
He saw a purple sky.
Purple fires were rising up
From a purple hill,
Men were grinding purple cider
At a purple mill.
Purple Adeline was playing
With a purple doll;
Little purple dragon flies
were crawling up the wall.
And at the supper-table
He got crazy as a loon
From eating purple apple dumplings
With a purple spoon.
In a pot of dye,
And when he put them on again
He saw a purple sky.
Purple fires were rising up
From a purple hill,
Men were grinding purple cider
At a purple mill.
Purple Adeline was playing
With a purple doll;
Little purple dragon flies
were crawling up the wall.
And at the supper-table
He got crazy as a loon
From eating purple apple dumplings
With a purple spoon.
