Celtic Solstice Quilt

Quiltville
I feel like I am lagging behind and being left set in the dust. I really wanted to join Bonnie Hunter’s Mystery Quilt, Celtic Solstice but felt like I had other quilts that need finishing, like my Orca Bay that only lacks the border. My sister Polly and some of her friends and a few of my Possum Town Quilter friends are joining in and I hated to be left out. Do you call it “peer pressure?” So, here I am just now choosing my fabric.

I know this is a mystery and none of us know how it’s going to turn out, but given the clues that we have; do you think this color palette will work? This is how I’m figuring my color changes.

Neutrals = White with a little Black
Yellow/Gold = Light/Medium Celery Green
Orange = Dark Purple/Violet
Green = Light Lavender/Violet
Blue = Black

Will it work????

Julia, I too just today (Tuesday) started to work on Clue 1. I'm glad I'm not the only one feeling like I'm lagging behind.

Go for it with your colors. When I'm in doubt about my color choices, one reference I turn to is:

Are you familiar with it? I can get lost in their 'palette' tab for hours if I'm not careful!

I am not doing this mystery, but that doesn't stop me from saying that I like your fabric selections.

Love you fabric choices. As for starting another project? Just take Bonnie's advice and use one as leaders & enders for the other. :)

I just got my fabric organized for the mystery quilt today, too. I am working on hand quilting a quilt and also have a quilt designed by your sister, Barbara, in the works. So what is one more thing?

Bonnie suggested that it is important to have good contrast between all the colors. Be careful about the black and the other dark...otherwise I love this combination.

Interesting, Julia. . . I gave in to peer pressure too!! From your sister, Polly! :) She is such an encouragement to me, though, and I wanted to do this quilt "with" her (via the internet). Needless to say, she is already way ahead of me! I feel better knowing that you haven't started yet either!

Love the colors, only a bit concerned about the black, why not some blue?
I'm not making the quilt, but will be collecting the clues. I just love reading your blog and those of your sisters.

I like the violets and lavendars and celery greens. If everything has good contrast, I think you're good to go. Since I have the Bonnie colored fabrics, I'm going with her colors this time...i usually prefer to go my own way. I am still ironing fabrics, but hope to start cutting and piecing soon.

I'm trying to finish projects, too. Soon my sewing corner will be packed up to make room for out of town family over the holidays.

When I start the mystery, I know it is a long term project for me. We can send each other updates on our progress this spring!

I think those colors will work beautifully together! Looking forward to seeing what you do with them.

In this case peer pressure is a good thing! I am guessing Bonnie's quilts will look awesome in any colors!

I like your colors! I always appreciate the ones who see things a little differently; it is so fun to see those quilts develop.

I think your colors will be gorgeous. I intended to not do Bonnie's colors this year but I had to because those are the colors I have the most of and I need to use some up.
