Thanksgiving Day and Wonky Quilts

I was thankful for Afton and Keyona’s help in peeling potatoes for mashed potatoes for our Thanksgiving lunch.

Mother enjoys a moment with her great grandson Teryn Ray.

Quinten smoked a turkey for our lunch. Evie made gravy and carved the turkey.

After lunch I pulled out a gingerbread house for the grandchildren to help decorate.
IMG_9840

Evie did a wonderful job squeezing the icing, letting the children place the candy on the house, and keeping order.

I think I like Dr. Seuss’ books as much as the children. And I’m always glad “that the Grinch’s small heart grew three sizes that day!”

Afton is basting her quilt getting it ready for the machine quilting.

She bundled up for an airplane ride and then had some waiting time so she diligently kept on quilting.

Mother’s hexagons are making beautiful flowers. Just look how nice and flat they lay.

All finished except hand stitching the binding to the back.

And June did a lot of that hand stitching.

Tell your mother that I love how her hexie flowers are coming along! Mine have had to wait in line while I finish up some Christmas sewing!

So glad the girls got a turn making quilts at your house. I know they will treasure them and the memories! I like Grandmother's project very much! And I just bought myself a bunch of Dr. Seuss stories. I love the grinch story too, but my favorites are "The 500 hats of Bartholomew Cubbins" & "The King's Stilts" & "Oobleck!"

It looks like you had a wonderful Thanksgiving filled with love and family.
So good to see younger folks enjoying the art of quilting.
Your Mother has the sweetest smile.
Have a great day.

Looks like they had a memorable holiday. By definition, I didn't know squares could be wonky. ;) They look awesome.

I love seeing photos of your mother on your and Polly's blog. And Barbara's. Seems silly because I don't know any of you! There is just something lovely about her face. She is looking a bit pale and tired in these latest photos though. Hope she is OK.
Lovely to see the younger girls quilting. They are doing very well!!! But then they probably have good teachers:)

Love the wonky squares!

I echo all of the above - a beautiful family making beautiful quilts and memories together, how delightful. Looking at June hand binding reminds me why I prefer to sew it by hand and not machine ... we might give all our quilts away but we get to snuggle under them first :)
