Flying to Rapid Response Meeting

Paul and I recently flew with Joel and Sheila ...

... to Indiana / Kentucky for a Rapid Response Meeting.

Supper at Hinkle Hamburgers in Madison, IN.

The view from our balcony the next morning.

At 3 in the morning we were evacuated from the building. We still don't know why!

I worked on my hexies on our way home.

Flying Goose -- "On the Way"

On my design wall this morning are 2 pieces, the flying goose which I call "On the Way," and "Bumbo." You can read about "Bumbo" here.

~~~~~~~~~~
Using patches from a fabric with clouds, I fused them on to a darker blue background. The background was then layered with backing and batting and heavily quilted. Then I fused the goose to the front and free motion quilted him to the quilt.
The back is finished with a hand sewn hanger and signed and dated in the border. I'm calling the piece "On the Way" as he looks like he is flying somewhere.
~~~~~~~~~~
Now I'm trying another piece. I cut patches out of the fabric with blue flowers on a white background. Then I laid the patches on a blue background fabric.

Then I laid the same patches on a white and orange background fabric.

Neither of the samples have a focal point. I'm thinking of adding some sort of silhouette, maybe in the orange or real dark indigo blue. What are your thoughts?

And now, Gabe takes it out for a ‘spin’(?).

… as a Quilter
I’m working now on the borders of “lily.” I’m needing to come up with a name. Do any of you have a good suggestion?

Flying to See Dustin & Gina and Dana Makes a Quilt

Life …
I made a fast flying trip with Paul and Joel to NY. Paul had a CAM Rapid Response meeting in PA. Joel planned to visit Dustin & Gina in NY after dropping Paul off in PA. There were 2 extra seats in the plane so I got to hop aboard to go along.

Dustin took Joel to some airplane museum close by and Gina took me to a few little fabric shops around Penn Yan.

In his back yard, Dustin chopped and broke scrap slats for a bonfire.

This is the back side of the house where Dustin & Gina live.

They invited her family in for supper -- meat, potatoes, carrots and onions wrapped in tin foil and then smoked on the grill.
IMG_7330

Joel roasted his marshmallows to perfection.

Gina fixed us a wonderful breakfast including homemade grape juice. Mmmmm good!
IMG_7360

I enjoyed my short stay with Dustin & Gina so very much. It just didn’t last long enough.
IMG_7363

On the way back to the airport Joel bought us a treat at Seneca Farms. I chose “peach” ice cream, the flavor of the week, . And that was mmmmmm good too!

And then it was time to fly back home.

… as a Quilter
Dana came over one day and became interested in making a small quilt. She’s a good fast learner …
IMG_7310

… and got a good start on her improvisational quilt. She’s making it similar to the quilt that Gina made here.

We stopped for fuel at a small airport in Knoxville, TN. Seeing the Sunsphere reminded me of the AQS Quilt Show we had attended there earlier.
