Life …

Georgi and Talya came for a sleep over and then enjoyed the day. Ashton kept them entertained royally!

Paul and I had lunch with Darryl and Laura one last time before they move to Detroit.

… as a Quilter

Brenda, Ebba, and I went to Hattiesburg, MS for the biannual Fiber Art and Quilt Show.

This beautiful, modern, yet strikingly simple bird house quilt took my fancy.

Martha Ginn gave an inspiring lecture on “Creativity.”

Her bonfire quilt with a shining moon on glitzy netting over an old tablecloth was marvelous.

These next two quilts are part of the 2014 Hoffman Challenge. The recognizable fabric has the colorful circles in it.

I love the way the red strips in each block bring this quilt together. I think this would be something nice we could make at Sewing Circle.

I’m thrilled that my peacock “Palatial Plumage” got an honorable mention in it’s category and also “Judge’s Choice.”

And then too my “Bubbled Double Nine Patch” also received two ribbons, first in it’s category and best machine quilting with a domestic machine. I’m pleased as punch!

We were invited to Jeff and Kathryn’s for lunch today. I enjoyed seeing her “Rhubarb Pie” quilt. I think it would be something easy for our Sewing Circle to make for charity quilts.

Kathryn, Dorcas, and Darlene put together this “News Flash” quilt for Dorcas from American Patchwork & Quilting magazine. Dorcas is getting married in September.

They also put together this blue and brown “Rail Fence” from their scraps and I think it is lovely, just lovely!

The wheat is already turning a golden brown.

I stopped for a short visit to see Paul’s folks on her birthday. They were trying to find the reason their martins were acting so funny!

Paul needed a ride from the field back to the house, so I picked him up.

Paul built this Fisher Classic many years ago.

Craig takes the Leagle Eagle up for a fly.

Joel said this was his best birthday party yet!

Ashton thinks Dustin will enjoy these tractor pictures in the card he is making.

My sister Emily gave me this panel and I’m making strata to go with it in preparation for a kaleidoscope class in Jackson.

Linda D. came one afternoon and helped me decide on the placement of the colored strips for my strata and ironed some too.

Magnolia Sewing Circle

Our group was quite large this month with 22 or more adults and 25 or more children attending.

We continued hand quilting the quilt with the embroidered blocks.

Sherilyn sews the binding for a comforter.

Shelah, Jenn P. and Jenn L. also finish binding comforters.

Evie and Rhoda cut out dresses for another project.

Brittany and Karla get another comforter ready for sewing the binding.

It was a beautiful day and for the most part the children played outside. But a few toys enticed their creativity indoors.

Crystal shows Sheila how to sew alternate blocks for the bird blocks.

Crystal lays out these bird blocks, that Sheila has bordered, in a pleasing arrangement.

Lester and Louise plan to deliver these 22 packaged comforters to Christian Aid Ministries in Indiana.

These munchkins are ready for a ride!

Wonderful bedtime stories from Uncle Arthur.

I used to think this kind of jumping was fun!

Ponds, boats, streams, digging, water, and friends make for lots of good fun.

Remember the “Christmas Cactus” quilt that I started years ago? I got it back from my longarm quilter, Elmina and added the binding to finish it up.

I think instead of “Christmas Cactus” I'll call my version “Raspberry Cactus.”

Life–This and That

Sam and Sheri

My sister Coleen and I took a walk down by the river and got a shot back up the river of our home stomping grounds.

Before our day, a railroad used to cross the river.

Coleen enjoyed a ride on the swing out over the river up at our old swimming hole.

On up the river and around the bend we met my cousin Ransford's daughter Reece and her friend Mike out for a pleasurable afternoon.

Later we took a drive around the country to look for old silos. This one is made of tile similar to …

I love the red barn behind this silo with the unique roof between Harrisonburg and Broadway.

And then we came upon this old spring house south of Bridgewater and had to stop for a photo shoot.

The Birthday Party

Kirby brings the whole family from over the way.
