Thanksgiving Guests, Keyona and Afton Quilt

Life …
My sister June and Jim brought two of their grandchildren and Mother to Mississippi to visit us over the Thanksgiving holidays.
IMG_9920

We took them out to Bogue Chitto Cotton Gin for a tour. Paul shows them a hand full of cotton seeds.
IMG_9800

Keyona and Afton watch the cotton bales being wrapped for shipment.
IMG_9812

This is our group watching the loud machines strip the cotton from the seeds. Actually there are saw blades that pick the seeds from the lint.

… as a Quilter

Keyona and Afton are trying to pick some fabric to make a small quilt.
IMG_9785

We decided on making “wonky” squares like Gina, Carolyn, and Dana to make it easy. I set up my trusty old Bernina 1130 in my SewEasy table for Keyona.
IMG_9816

Afton used Amy’s trusty Bernina 1260 set up on Paul’s desk.
IMG_9821

June sat at my desk doing beautiful hand work with silk ribbon and thread on her black velvet diamonds.
IMG_9827

Mother sat back in the corner hand stitching her hexies together, a project that Polly helped get started for her. She loves it and her points are coming out very precise and the flowers lay nice and flat.
IMG_9829

Ashton had his own ideas about making quilt blocks and used my trusty Bernina 170 to make his creation.
IMG_9832

My job was to cut the strips for the girls, guide them in their sewing, watch out for Ashton and do whatever else that needed to be done.

36th Wedding Anniversary and WIP – Sailboat III

Life …

Amy and Ashton took …
IMG_9778

… Paul and me to Longhorn Steak House for our 36th wedding anniversary.
IMG_9772

… as a Quilter

I started my third Sailboat quilt by sending my fabric through the printer and printing it in color. Then I ironed it to heat set the ink. I didn’t have any Bubble Jet Heat Set, so I just washed it anyway, and the blue faded away into the water. So now my challenge is to put color back into the piece using fabric and thread.
IMG_9781

Here I’ve added some fabric and I think I’m ready now to add more color with thread.

Congratulations to the winner,  #43, of my 4 yards of fabric in my giveaway. Siouxzq64 said “I like Tweet the little goldfinch looks just like the ones which hop around my lilacs during the summer.”

Design Wall Monday

I just received my quilt “Pharaoh’s Tombs” back from The National Quilt Museum. It had been traveling with them for 2 years. Now I’ve pinned it to my design wall to enjoy it again for a while. You can read more about how this quilt came to be by clicking HERE.

Tina, Guests, and Sailing II Art Quilt

Life …
I took care of Tina one day this week. Her favorite puzzle piece was the motorcycle.
IMG_9703

Building towers with my thread kept her occupied for a while.
IMG_9704

Paul’s niece, Melissa & Scott and Kaylie from Michigan came to visit her family over the holidays.
IMG_9714

We invited our family and a few from her family for supper. Her grandma Louise, her momma Miriam, her SIL Laura and …

Georgi stayed for a ‘sleep over’ party.

Paul got a 10 point buck this evening.

There is still time to leave a comment for your chance to win my 4 yards of 100% cotton quilting fabric here.

I have decided now to make a series of Sailboat art quilts. So I took this picture, which is a little different from the other one …
Sailboat 4c

… and made it into another small art quilt, Sailboat II. It measures 7”X10”.

Life …
Paul woke me up early this morning to see the beautiful sunrise.

This evening I gave the Bible lesson at Girls Club. First they sang ...

Mrs. Miller, Design Wall, and Sailboat Quilt

Life …
This afternoon we enjoyed a visit with our neighbor ladies, Mrs. Miller and her daughter Ann. We enjoyed catching up on their lives and hearing about their family. They kept bringing out out the snacks, ‘Bit O Honey,’ ‘Milky Ways,’ ‘Snickers,’ chips, Coke, and water. And then before we left they gave us big yardage of 3 pieces of fabric. Talk about true Southern Hospitality, that was it!

… as a Quilter
I was uninspired by the blocks I have had on my design wall for the last couple weeks and decided to put them away and pull out something different to look at for a while. Check out other design walls at Patchwork Times.
IMG_9636

I made a new small piece of fiber art this week called
Sailboat.
IMG_9628

Inspiration came from a picture Amy took a couple weeks ago of Gabriel with his newly acquired sailboat on Joel’s fishpond.
