Life …

After Paul ate his delicious potato soup from Calvary Baptist Church’s fundraiser, he got up from the table, washed his container, filled it with milk, added chocolate Quik, and heated it in the microwave. Then he added a bunch … a whole bunch of marshmallows and heated it a little more, brought it to the table and enjoyed his 2nd bowl of ‘soup!’

… as a Quilter

Today was our annual Magnolia Guest Day Sewing. We had lots of visitors with a total attendance around 97. We had different projects from which you could choose to help.

Quilting.

Tying or knotting comforters.

Another comforter being tied.

Putting “cheer bundles” together as Christmas gifts for the Cherry Creek Mission in SD.

Tina spent lots of time pushing pins into my ironing board.

Sewing quilt blocks together and making simple receiving blankets for babies.

Mrs. Vernon visits with Thelma.

These ladies helped make ‘string’ blocks for a comforter top.

By the end of the day their 38 blocks made quite a show.

Bird at Sunset and Cardinal Quilts

When both Emily and I saw this picture of “Bird at Sunset” and pinned it on Pinterest we decided to use it for a quilt challenge. We were to each make a quilt and not let each other know what we were doing until the grand revealing.

So, here she is with her “Bird at Sunset.”

She had bought a silk scarf years ago at a yard sale for a quarter and used it for her background. She said she had offered it to me and I turned her down. Wow! How could I have done that?

She used twine for the fence and unraveled it for the grass.

I like how she turned the bird around to face the center.

Beautiful. Just beautiful!!!

And this is my piece.

I changed the bird to a cardinal, repositioned it, and made holly branches in the foreground.

The background was heavily stitched and then the cardinal, holly, and fence were added and stitched.

I wrapped the quilted top around a canvas frame and stapled it to the back.

Fly-In and Possum Town Quilters

Life …

I know Joel and Quinten are enjoying themselves, but it looks scary to me! That fabric seat I made for them is working pretty good.

They invited aviation enthusiasts to our place to hang out and eat pizza.

Evie and Angie are cutting up old jeans to be made into those wonderful sturdy woven rugs.

Supper guests this evening included Darryl and Laura Schrock, her brother Kevin, and their cousin Ryan.

While Paul snoozes on the recliner, Tina and I sing “When We All Pull Together.”

… as a Quilter

I joined the Possum Town Quilters for their monthly meeting.

Sandi is so pleased to finish her fractured flowers with a beautifully over dyed border.

Mary Ann shows her bargello Christmas table runner.

This “wedding ring” is the beginning of our raffle quilt.

Carla is pleased with her finished art quilt.

Judy showed us her autumn quilt top.

Tonya finished this king size sampler from “Craftsy.”

Legal Eagle Seat

The boys are fixing up the Legal Eagle, an ultra lite airplane. I’m not sure you can call it an airplane. It’s more like a lawn chair with wings and a motor. The aluminum seat was in dire need of repair and they ask me to make the seat of fabric.

They chose the drab olive brown fabric instead of the hot coral pink or the large, in vogue, red and blue chevron canvas that I thought would be nice.

Careful now. Take it easy!

And there is still more work to be done before they can fly it again.

Houston Quilt Show and a Goal

Over the years I have admired the quilts of Caryl Bryer Fallert. She had an exhibit of 30 Quilts for 30 Years and a very interesting lecture which I enjoyed.

Each quilt measured 30”X30”

And here’s another quilt I like.

The quilt show was held at the George R. Brown Convention Center. Wouldn’t this picture make a neat ‘fresh modern quilt?’

I enjoyed a “Craftsy” demo by Victoria Finley Wolfe.

This kite quilt would make a wonderful throw or crib quilt for a child.
