Quilt Festival–Houston, TX

The exhibit of quilts made by Libby Lehman is spectacular and very special.
Libby Lehman

I was so pleased that Libby’s son Les and sister Ellen let me pose with them in front of one of Libby’s quilts.

Here is my sister Emily admiring another one of Libby’s quilts.

I really enjoyed visiting with the maker of this quilt.

This kaleidoscope by Paula Nadelstern caught my attention.

This quilt was inspired from a sketch this lady doodled and colored with her grandson.

The Best of Show is “Chihuly”s Gondola” by Melissa Sobotka.

This smaller quilt called “Wind” by Masanobu Miyama is exceptionally well done.IMG_8839

Cypress With Moss – Fiber Art Quilt -- Blogger's Quilt Festival

I discovered that you could have two entries in Amy’s Creative Side’s Blogger’s Quilt Festival.

AmysCreativeSide

With that in mind I decided to enter
into the ‘wall hanging’ category.

I cut out the pieces from cotton fabric and fused them onto a cotton background. It measures 16”X20” and is heavily machine quilted.
IMG_6126

She gave me permission to translate her work into fiber art. So, from a picture of her watercolor painting “old cypress with spanish moss / Sky Lake WMA - Swiftown / September” on the right, I made this fiber art piece on the left that I call
“Cypress With Moss.”
IMG_6135

I used “fast finished triangles” on the back so it is ready for mounting.

Farming, Guests, and Only a Lily

Life …

I pulled the bean header again, this time 30 miles. Quinten and Gabriel got a head start going down the road in the combines …
IMG_8596

… but I caught up with them and followed them the rest of the way to Pickensville, AL.
IMG_8610

Another day, Quinten needed a ride to the Oswalt Farm so I obliged him. He greased up the equipment …

… before starting his day of field cultivating.

Saturday, Miguel came to help set up the playground swings in the pines in the back yard.
IMG_8655

He brought his sister Christine along and …
IMG_8662
… they stayed for our pizza supper.

Teryn is growing so fast, it seems.
IMG_8663

Paul enjoyed a little holding time.
IMG_8692

Picking cotton and hauling it away kept Kirby and Ashton busy.
IMG_8679

… as a Quilter

I was bequeathed all this fabric and blocks from Veronica from some unknown quilter in the parking lot at Joann's.
IMG_8617

My “lily” quilt had lots of wobbly ripples in it when I got through quilting it.
IMG_8623

But, don't worry! I blocked it and poured lots of water on it and it dried nice and smooth and flat.
It is finished, all the way down to the label and the hanging sleeve on the back.  I’m calling it “Only a Lily.”

Life and Quilt Lily

Life …
Quinten gives his boys an aerial view of our house.

Scott enjoys a ride in Gabe’s newly acquired sailboat.
IMG_8538

And now, Gabe takes it out for a ‘spin’(?).
IMG_8553

This load of mulch is for the grandchildren!
IMG_8583

… as a Quilter
I’m working now on the borders of “lily.” I’m needing to come up with a name. Do any of you have a good suggestion?

A Busy Week

Life …
Perry and Emily’s son Andy, brought a friend, Grant, along down to Mississippi from Virginia to help a few days on the farm harvesting beans.
IMG_8427

I kept Talya for one night and part of a day while her sister Georgi went to the hospital for hernia surgery.
IMG_8429

As I was leaving for Starkville one day, I noticed a light in the dash that warned me of a low left front tire. Quinten and Jamie got me going again.
IMG_8452

I baked three peach pies. One for us here at home and the other two for our school’s annual fish fry on Friday.
IMG_8438

The school gym was full with attendees at the fish fry.
IMG_8465

And then we had the Annual School Benefit Auction on Saturday.
IMG_8480

Gabriel helped run “Grandpa’s Express” making lots of children happy.
IMG_8488

Paul and I practiced and sang with this octet for Jerry Yoder and Cindy Mast’s wedding.

The happy couple, Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Yoder.

The ABC sisters, Arlene, Beattie, and Cindy sing one last song together.

… as a Quilter
My sister Emily took me to Boonville to Mr. Claude’s quilt and fabric shop. He uses a yardstick, carpenter’s square …

… and scissors to measure and cut fabric.
