Sunrise, Girls Club, and Thanksgiving

Life …
Paul woke me up early this morning to see the beautiful sunrise.

This evening I gave the Bible lesson at Girls Club. First they sang ...

Mrs. Miller, Design Wall, and Sailboat Quilt

Life …
This afternoon we enjoyed a visit with our neighbor ladies, Mrs. Miller and her daughter Ann. We enjoyed catching up on their lives and hearing about their family. They kept bringing out out the snacks, ‘Bit O Honey,’ ‘Milky Ways,’ ‘Snickers,’ chips, Coke, and water. And then before we left they gave us big yardage of 3 pieces of fabric. Talk about true Southern Hospitality, that was it!

… as a Quilter
I was uninspired by the blocks I have had on my design wall for the last couple weeks and decided to put them away and pull out something different to look at for a while. Check out other design walls at Patchwork Times.

I made a new small piece of fiber art this week called
Sailboat.
IMG_9628

Inspiration came from a picture Amy took a couple weeks ago of Gabriel with his newly acquired sailboat on Joel’s fishpond.

60th Anniversary and Teryn’s Quilt

Life …
We celebrated Paul’s folk’s 60th anniversary with a Sunday dinner lunch.

We missed all the siblings & their spouses from afar.

Mom and Daddy told us about the skunk that came in through their dryer vent and couldn’t get out. Mom turned the dryer on and soon they smelled singed hair.
IMG_8712IMG_8713IMG_8706IMG_8719

The skunk ate a hole in the vent and crawled out into the house. Daddy said if you catch them by their tail they can’t spray. So Mom and Daddy carefully ran him into a small bathroom to catch it.
IMG_8714IMG_8713IMG_8722IMG_8722

Daddy caught him by the tail, took him to the outside door that Mom had opened for him, and flung that skunk far out into the night.

… as a Quilter
I’m trying to decide on a quilt for our 7th grandchild, Teryn Ray. I want to use the puppy dog fabric as a jumping off point.
IMG_9552

The pattern is an improvisational one from “Quilting Modern” by Jacquie Gering and Katie Pederson.

I’m thinking of using the light fine print or the solid light brown for the gray background and then put the puppies in the rectangle boxes.
I need to think on this a while.

Magnolia’s Guest Day Sewing

Life …

After Paul ate his delicious potato soup from Calvary Baptist Church’s fundraiser, he got up from the table, washed his container, filled it with milk, added chocolate Quik, and heated it in the microwave. Then he added a bunch … a whole bunch of marshmallows and heated it a little more, brought it to the table and enjoyed his 2nd bowl of ‘soup!’

… as a Quilter

Today was our annual Magnolia Guest Day Sewing. We had lots of visitors with a total attendance around 97. We had different projects from which you could choose to help.

Bird at Sunset and Cardinal Quilts

When both Emily and I saw this picture of “Bird at Sunset” and pinned it on Pinterest we decided to use it for a quilt challenge. We were to each make a quilt and not let each other know what we were doing until the grand revealing.
Bird at sunset...

So, here she is with her “Bird at Sunset.”
IMG_9325

She had bought a silk scarf years ago at a yard sale for a quarter and used it for her background. She said she had offered it to me and I turned her down. Wow! How could I have done that?
IMG_9320

She used twine for the fence and unraveled it for the grass.
IMG_9323

I like how she turned the bird around to face the center.
IMG_9324

Beautiful. Just beautiful!!!

And this is my piece.
IMG_9327

I changed the bird to a cardinal, repositioned it, and made holly branches in the foreground.
IMG_9297

The background was heavily stitched and then the cardinal, holly, and fence were added and stitched.

I wrapped the quilted top around a canvas frame and stapled it to the back.
